AMERICAN CAR & FOUNDRY

Wilmington DE

Most recent update: March 25, 2017.

Jackson & Sharp was founded in 1863 by Job A. Jackson and Jacob F. Sharp, as a builder of passenger railroad cars: in 1875, they bought the Christina River Shipyards in order to diversify.  American Car & Foundry bought the company in 1901.  During the 1920s and 1930s, they built a range of standard-design power cruisers.  The shipyard closed in 1945, while the parent company is now called ACF Industries.  It was located on what is now called the Kalmar Nyckel site, home to the replica Kalmar Nyckel and the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation Museum & Shipyard, the spot where it is believed that Wilmington's original Swedish settlers came ashore.  See it from the air on Google here.  If anyone can add to the table below, please e-mail your input to timcolton@aol.com.
