HANLON DRY DOCK & SHIPBUILDING

Oakland CA

Most recent update: August 25, 2021.

The D. J. Hanlon Shipbuilding Company was established in 1912 by D. J. (Dan) Hanlon, who had worked in several shipyards before starting out on his own in about 1910, at the foot of 5th Avenue, in Oakland.  A marine railway was added by 1916 and the name was changed to Hanlon Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Company.  The site is now a marina but the shipyard buildings are obvious in Google: see it hereAlthough their last new ship was delivered in 1927, Hanlon continued as a repair yard through 1948.  If anyone can tell me why their hull numbers started at 56, or can add to the table below, please e-mail me at timcolton@aol.com
