In addition to the ships built by the large shipbuilders listed in the other parts of this section, almost all of whom built small vessels as filler work, hundreds of small ship and boat yards built thousands of small vessels of every conceivable size and type. This section will attempt to record who built what. There will inevitably be errors and omissions: corrections and additions will always be welcome.
These tables do not include the many thousands of very small craft - made of wood, rubber and plastic - that were produced by manufacturers rather than by boat builders or steel fabricators: on this web site, a shipyard is a facility with a waterfront and some kind of launching system, not a factory with a loading dock out back.
