Stephens Bros., Stockton CA
Stephens Bros. was a significant yacht builder, in business from 1902 through 1987. The name was changed to Stephens Marine in the mid-1950s and a new series of hull numbers was started, the old series having reached 1000. The yard was located at the foot of Yosemite Street, in downtown Stockton: see it from the air on Google here.
The first part of the table below, the part with hull numbers, is based on the list provided on the excellent website of Stockton's Haggin Museum, with additional data added where possible. The second part of the table, the part with ? in the hull # column, includes those Stephens boats that are in the Coast Guard database but which I cannot relate to any of the entries in the Haggin list. All very confusing. If anyone can make any connections for me or fill any of the many gaps in the table, please send your info to me at timcolton@aol.com. Note that there will always be minor discrepancies in the values of both GT, because boats get remeasured, and length, because the Coast Guard uses registered length rather than length overall.
