George S. Lawley & Sons, Neponset MA

(formerly in Scituate and South Boston)

George S. Lawley Sr. opened his first yachtbuilding yard in Scituate, in 1866.  In 1874, he moved to City Point, in South Boston, to a site next door to the Boston Yacht Club, but by 1910 he needed more space, so he moved again, to the former Putnam Nail Works, at Point Norfolk, in Neponset.  The yard closed in 1945.  You can see the site from the air on Google here.  Although a famous yachtbuilder, little is known about it and if anyone can add to the table below, please e-mail timcolton@aol.com.
