Todd Shipyards, Brooklyn NY

(formerly Erie Basin Dry Dock Company and Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company)

Most recent update: October 11, 2011.

Todd's Brooklyn shipyard was started in 1889, as Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company, itself the successor to Erie Basin Dry Dock Company.  William H. Todd had worked for both these companies and, in 1916, he and some associates bought Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company, Tietjen & Lang Dry Dock Company, of Hoboken, and Seattle Dry Dock & Construction Company, to form the William H. Todd Corporation.  It became a power in the industry, with multiple construction and repair yards on all three coasts.  The Brooklyn yard was closed in 1986 and sold to Rodermond Industries, which failed in the 1990s.  You can see it from the air on Google here: note the two floating dry-docks that are apparently sitting on the bottom of the harbor, and a tanker in the graving dock.  It was mainly a repair yard but if anyone can add to the table below, please e-mail timcolton@aol.com.
