McDermott Shipbuilding, Amelia and Morgan City LA

McDermott Shipbuilding was a major builder of tugs in its original Morgan City shipyard.  The Amelia yard, close to the Morgan City yard, was added in the 1990s with a view to increasing output and to building larger ships.  The venture into larger ships and into naval ships turned out to be very expensive and the parent company elected to get out of shipbuilding in 1999, selling the Morgan City yard to Service Marine and the Amelia yard to Bollinger.  Bollinger subsequently also acquired the Morgan City yard, when Service Marine folded the following year.  The yard is now operated as Bollinger Marine Fabricators.  See a blurred view of the shipyard from the air on Google here.
