Jakobson Shipyard, Oyster Bay NY

(formerly Jakobson & Petersen)

Most recent update: October 22, 2011.

Jakobson Shipyard, Inc., was established in Brooklyn as Jakobson & Petersen, in 1895.  The founder, Daniel Jakobson, was succeeded by his son Irving in 1925, and the company moved to Oyster Bay in 1938.  It was located just west of Roosevelt Park.  The yard was acquired by Moran Towing after WWII but got out of active shipbuilding in 1984 and was closed in 1993 because of environmental problems.  See the shipyard site from the air on Google here.
