American Car & Foundry, Wilmington DE
(formerly Jackson & Sharp)
Most recent update: July 22, 2010.
Jackson & Sharp was founded in 1863 as a builder of passenger railroad cars and bought the Christina River Shipyards in 1875, in order to diversify. American Car & Foundry bought the company in 1901. The shipyard closed in 1945, while the parent company is now called ACF Industries. It was located on what is now called the Kalmar Nyckel site, home to the replica of the Kalmar Nyckel, to the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation Museum & Shipyard and to the spot where it is believed that Wilmington's original Swedish settlers came ashore. See it from the air on Google here. If anyone can add to the table below, please e-mail your input to timcolton@aol.com.
