Austal Shipbuilding USA, Mobile AL
Austal Shipbuilding USA was established in 2000 as a joint venture of the Australian boatbuilder, Austal, and Tom Bender, owner of Bender Shipbuilding. Austal bought Bender out in September 2006. The shipyard is a completely new facility on Pinto Island in Mobile, located close to the I-10 tunnel. Its first two hull numbers were part of the parent company's series but then they started the 600 series for Austal USA. Since there are no new ships missing from this list, they must also use these numbers for other projects. Visit the shipyard at www.austal.com and see it from the air on Google here.
