Brown Shipbuilding, Houston TX

Brown Shipbuilding was built in 1941 by George and Herman Brown at the junction of Green's Bayou and the Houston Ship Channel, with $9mm from the Navy.  They built 12 PCs and 32 LCI(L)s before changing up to DEs, of which they built 61, and then closing out with 254 LSMs: a total output of 359 vessels in four years.  After the war, the yard was sold to Todd and became Todd Houston (although not to be confused with the WWII Todd Houston Shipbuilding, which closed after the war).  Todd Houston closed in 1985 and the yard became an offshore fabrication yard, owned by Brown & Root, a company that was also started by George Brown.  It was liquidated in 2004.
