Brown Shipbuilding was built in 1941 by George and Herman Brown at the junction of Green's Bayou and the Houston Ship Channel for the construction of destroyer escorts, with $9mm from the Navy. After the war, the yard was sold to Todd and became Todd's Houston division (although not to be confused with Todd's WWII Houston division, which closed after the war). Todd Houston closed in 1985 and the yard became an offshore fabrication yard, owned by Brown & Root, a company that was also started by George Brown. It was liquidated in 2004.
