Todd Shipyards, Galveston TX

(formerly Gray's Iron Works and Todd Galveston Drydocks, later Newpark Marine and First Wave Marine, now Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Offshore Rig Repair)

Most recent update: July 31, 2010.

Todd's Galveston shipyard was originally a repair yard called Gray's Iron Works: it was bought by Todd in 1944 to build T1 tankers, but reverted to repair work after the war, with the occasional new construction project.  Todd closed it in 1990 and sold the yard's post-Panamax floating dry-dock to Alabama and its Panamax dock to Bender.  In 1993, they sold the remainder to the Port of Galveston, which subsequently leased it to Newpark Marine, which became First Wave Marine, but folded in 2001.  The yard is now leased to Gulf Copper, which has brought in the very large floating dry-dock that was originally Sun Ship's Dock #4.  See the shipyard from the air on Google here.
