Gulfport Shipbuilding Company, Port Arthur TX
(formerly Gulfport Boiler & Welding)
Gulfport Shipbuilding was established as Gulfport Boiler & Welding, in the 1930s. It became a leading builder of ocean tugs in WWII and continued in that market after the war. It was acquired by Levingston Shipbuilding in the 1950s but closed in 1985, after the offshore market collapsed. It was located on land leased from the Kansas City & Southern Railroad, which has now been absorbed into the Port of Port Arthur. See what's left of the site of the shipyard on Google here.
