Halter Marine - Chickasaw, Chickasaw AL
(formerly Gulf Shipbuilding and Chickasaw Shipbuilding)
Chickasaw Shipbuilding & Car Company was established in 1917 by a subsidiary of U.S. Steel. It closed after WWI but was acquired by Waterman Steamship Lines in 1940 and reopened as Gulf Shipbuilding. It closed again after WWII but it was revived again in 1979 by Halter Marine, as a builder of supply boats and tugs. It closed yet again in 1983 and is now a general cargo terminal. See the site of the shipyard from the air on Google here.
