Harlan & Hollingsworth started as a railcar manufacturer in 1837 and expanded into shipbuilding in 1841: it was one of the earliest iron shipbuilders. It was bought by Bethlehem Steel in 1904 and closed in 1926. Bethlehem reopened it in WWII to build landing craft but closed it again after the war: part of the yard was subsequently the Wilmington division of Dravo Shipbuilding.
