(formerly Samuel L. Moore & Sons [1889-1893], Crescent Shipyard [1893-1904], J. W. Sullivan Co. [1905-1918] and New Jersey Dry Dock & Transportation Co. [1918-1919])
Although a complete hull list is available, little is known about this shipyard. Samuel L. Moore started it in 1854 but didn't start building ship until 1889. Moore leased the shipyard to Lewis Nixon in 1893, who renamed it Crescent Shipyard and operated it until 1904. Bethlehem bought it in 1905 and leased it first to John W. Sullivan and then to New Jersey Dry Dock & Transportation Company, not taking full control until 1916, for the WWI emergency shipbuilding effort. There are inconsistencies in the hull numbering during this period, which suggest that Sullivan had a second shipyard somewhere. The yard was closed after the war. It was located on Front Street, at the foot of Marshall Street: there's a waterfront park there now. See the site from the air on Google here.
