AmShip Lorain, Lorain OH

(formerly Cleveland Shipbuilding [1897-1900])

Most recent update: July 22, 2010.

The Lorain shipyard was started in 1897 by Cleveland Shipbuilding, which closed its downtown shipyard and relocated to Lorain.  It was acquired by The American Ship Building Company in 1899 and became AmShip Lorain.  It continued as a leading builder of lakers until the 1970s, when it was sold to a steel scrap processor.  See the site of the Lorain yard from the air on Google here.
