Salvage and Rescue Ships (ARS, ASR, ATS)


In all, 37 salvage ships (ARS),  including 6 for transfer to Britain, were built in 6 boatyards: there were two designs - the 213-foot, 16-knot  steel "Diver" class, all of which were built by Basalt Rock, and the 183-foot, 12-knot wooden "Anchor" class.  In addition, 9 submarine rescue ships (ASR) were built in 2 more boatyards: there was only one design - the 251-foot, 14-knot  "Chanticleer" class.
