Marystown Shipyard, Marystown NL

Most recent update: June 13, 2011.

Marystown Shipyard was built by the federal and provincial governments in 1966 and operated initially by Canadian Vickers, under the name Newfoundland Marine Works.  In 1974, management control was taken over by the provincial government but it was privatized in 1979.  It was sold to Friede Goldman International in 1997 and sold again to the present owner, Kiewit Offshore, in 2001, but both these owners were more interested in the company's other yard, which had been built in the 1980s to service the offshore industry.  See the shipyard from the air on Google here and the offshore yard at Cow Head here.
