Bel-Aire Shipyard, North Vancouver BC
Most recent update: November 24, 2010.
Founded by George Fryatt in 1956, who died in 2009 at the age of 87, this company was initially based in Vancouver's Coal Harbour, at the north end of Cardero Street, occupying the former site of A. Linton & Co. which was next door to the better known W. R. Menchion's shipyard. The operation was moved to North Vancouver in 1963 and was closed in 1986. Part of the North Vancouver site is still used by ABD Yachts, a builder of aluminum workboats & yachts. See it from the air on Google here. Bel-Aire started their numbering system at # 101 and numbered all contracts for new construction, repair and industrial work in one sequence. Gaps in this list are either undocumented small vessels, repair jobs or industrial fabrication.
